Ealing Council has failed in its second bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for funding to repair and restore Grade 1 listed Pitzhanger Manor.
Carole Souter, Chief Executive of HLF, said: “This meeting was very over-subscribed and the quality of bids was exceptionally high. The Pitzhanger Manor project was excellent but we simply did not have enough money to support it on the day. We will be meeting with representatives from Ealing Council shortly to discuss the best way forward for their project.”
Vivienne Cane-Honeysett, chair of Walpole Friends commented. “This is hugely disappointing as this is the second bid that has been made for the Manor House. This time the Council went in at a significantly lower bid of £3.9m but unfortunately appeared to have had very stiff competition. We understand though, that the doors are not closed on further bids and we will continue to work closely with Ealing Council and the local community to support the next bid.
“It is a great pity that the bid was not won at this stage as there is a tremendous amount of planning taking place at the moment for the works in Walpole Park, funded by an earlier HLF bid and as the Manor is such an integral part of the Park experience it would have been sensible to be able plan for both together.”
